The Artists of Coruscate: Introducing our host for the evening…Catherine Hernandez!

Catherine Hernandez!

Introducing our dazzling hostess for the soiree, Catherine Hernandez!!

Hernandez is an accomplished playwright, having achieved massive success with her first play Singkill, directed by Nina Lee Aquino, and produced by fu-GEN Asian Canadian Theatre Company in association with Factory Theatre. It garnered a whopping seven Dora Mavor Moore nominations. Her one woman puppet show, Eating with Lola has been performed to great success in Canada, North Carolina, and Colombia. She has recently launched Sulong Theatre, a company devoted to producing theatre by and about women of colour. The collective’s inaugural creation, Future Folk, was produced by Theatre Passe Muraille as part of its 09/10 season. Last year she produced, “When Sally Met Sally” an online video collection of queer dating disasters. The show’s theme song, “Ms. X,” played at the end of each episode, is a piece by McJazz, who has also featured Hernandez in her first music video for revolutions. Hernandez, joined by Dainty Box, features in a burlesque performance for Mc’s “Lay Down” video.

Using hip hop as her heart beat and her hips as her guide, watch Catherine slice the air while blending sultry burlesque and the ancient art of Filipino fan dancing!

About Kaitlin Blanchard

I'm a queer theorist, social justice activist, playwright, poet, graduate student, and general advocate that one needn't go very far to better the world for others. I was born in Canada and claim Vancouver as my home with a firm commitment to questioning the ideology of settler-colonialism that allows me to do so. And, oh yeah, I love all sorts of folks--get over it.
